Full name: Randel Lavelle "Randy" Williams Gender: Male Height: 5'10" (178 cm) Weight: 152 lbs (69 kg) Born: August 23, 1953 in Fresno, California, United States Affiliations: Tobias Striders Country:  United States  Medals: 1 Gold, 1 Silver (2 Total) In 1972 the 19-year-old Randy Williams of Southern Cal became the youngest Olympic long jump champion in history Four years later, he took the silver medal in Montréal and in 1980 he qualified for his third Olympics but, because of the boycott, was denied a chance at his third Olympic medal. Williams saved his best for the Olympics; his domestic accomplishments were less impressive. He won his only NCAA title in 1972 and was AAU champion in 1972 and 1973. Personal Bests: 100 – 10.34 (1977); 200 – 21.15 (1983); LJ – 27-4¼ (8.34) (1972); TJ – 52-3¾ (15.94) (1971)....

There are no lanes, but trails that will be even or uneven, muddy or too dry, dusty or littered with loose grass. And the rolling hills that the athlete climbs during such races laughs at the unprepared, letting them slowly crawl up its mighty crest or roll down its bumpy grain from fatigue...
